Mercy: Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by

Psalm 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Isaiah 38:17 Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. Isaiah 43:25 I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins. Hebrews 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. Hebrews 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Jeremiah 50:20 In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve. Micah 7:19 He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

Wow. What amazing truths of Scriptures. As we read these verses and ponder the reality of what they mean for those of us who've been saved, doesn't the praise just flow out of our hearts to our God? We deserved just the opposite. We were guilty and vile having willfuly turned against our God to our follow our own selfish and evil desires. We didn't seek Him. We didn't love Him. We deserved the awful punishment due to us and an eternity spent away from God's presence. But God (what wonderful words) in love to our soul delivered us from the pit of corruption and, instead of what we deserved, our sins are... * removed as far as the east is from the west * cast behind God's back * blotted out * remembered no more * unable to be found * pardoned * subdued * cast into the depths of the sea

Isn't it almost unbelieveable? But why? Why has He done it? Isaiah 43:25 give us the answer. "I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressionsfor mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins." For my own sake. Not because of anything we have done. Not because we deserved it. Not because God owed it to us. No, far from it. Titus 3:5 says, "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;" Ephesians 1:5,11 also tells us, "Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will. In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will." Why did He do it? Because He wanted to. Because He felt like it. Simply because that's who He is. A God of compassion and mercy. A God of immesurable, boundless love. A God of unlimited grace. What comfort this gives us. What joy. What thanksgiving and gratitude. Our sins are gone, never to return to us again. Praise be to our God! Today, and every day, may we just revel in thankfulness to our merciful God - our sins are remembered no more.
