Monthly Meditations: Reaching Our Own Hearts

Regardless of who we are, if we can look back to a time in our life when we were saved, not by our own doing but by the grace of God (Ephesians 2:8-9), then we are in the ministry of reaching hearts. It may be our own children or grandchildren, our Sunday school students or others that God has placed in our lives, but in any case we want to influence these ones for good and reach their hearts for Christ. However, our efforts to reach hearts for Christ will be worth only as much as our own heart has been reached. Our heart must come first ... the hearts of others second. We must remember this truth: God is more interested in what He can do in us, than through us. As His workmen, may we seek to study and develop spiritual growth in ourselves first so that we may effectively minister to the needy hearts of the ones He has placed in our care.
